Blog #1: Where I Get My News

MY NEWS SOURCES

It is important to have different news sources when it comes to gathering information on current news. I try to expand on news sources as some can oftentimes be biased. My five news sources are Snapchat, Twitter, Spotify, Tik Tok, and The Washington Post.

Source: Snapchat

Snapchat is an app that I use daily. Snapchat has an original news page by NBC called Stay Tuned, as well as other news sources such as Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, ESPN, and more. While some of Snapchat's articles may be considered bias, I personally find it easy to understand when a news source is being biased. It is convenient for me to use Snapchat since I am always on my phone and checking social media. The account I check the most on Snapchat is Stay Tuned because it is from NBC, a well-known news source, and it is engaging. Stay Tuned uploads several times a day based on when breaking news happens and it is a great way for people who do not usually check the news to stay up to date.

Similar to Snapchat, Twitter is an app I check daily. I like to use Twitter to get my news because Twitter offers its own column on the app that is dedicated to news. Also, there is a trending column where usually the breaking news is trending. Since Twitter users are able to respond and react to news tweets, I find it interesting to look at how other people interpret the news as well.

Podcasts are an easy way for me to multitask, I can listen on my phone to a podcast while doing something like cleaning, homework, driving, walking to class, etc. My favorite podcast to listen to for news is Chicks in the Office by Barstool Sports. Chicks in the Office is not the typical news podcast though, it is more geared towards celebrities and Hollywood news. The hosts, Maria and Fran, keep up with every detail in Hollywood or current news that their viewers would want to know and report on it weekly via their podcast. While Chicks in the Office is not a current events news podcast, there are thousands to choose from on Spotify that can provide listeners with current news.

Tik Tok is a social media app, unlike the ones that have been around for a while such as Tinder, Instagram, or Snapchat. Tik Tok recently became popular a little over a year ago, and since then it has become one of the most widely used social media apps. Tik Tok is a video app where people can post up to one-minute videos of basically anything they want and other users can view, like, and comment on the videos depending on their algorithm. Tik Tok is another source to get news from as well. Many influencers have a large following on Tik Tok and use their platform to spread awareness on current news they feel is important. The important thing to remember when using Tik Tok as a news source is that it often has biased opinions. Since anyone can make a Tik Tok account, I do not use it as the most reliable form of news. I do however like to see how others interpret the current news.

My final source of news is The Washington Post. I get daily updates from Apple News on my laptop and iPhone, and one of the media companies I always find myself reading is from The Washington Post. While some may believe they have some bias, most consider The Washington Post to be an unbias news source. I l like to refer to this news media company because it is an easy way for me to get important information and facts on current news.
